Just having a delve into the past here in the office. Do they still make the 'crisps' that were like long matchsticks and what were they called?

actually, I've done a Google image search and I don't think it was Chipsticks, sorry!

I remember the ones you mean though. M&S did their own version, too.
originally you had chipsticks wich were potatoes in the shape of small chips but small in length and then you had corn sticks much larger and as the name suggests made out of corn i believe, i love the original chipsticks
There also used to be Cheese straws, they were like chipsticks only thinner, came in an orange packet. There are also KP Matchsticks, only came in beef and salt & Vinegar. I think you can still get these
You can still get them in family size packs in Sainsburys - along with lots of the other savouries that we used to have like the cheesey biscuit shapes
They were called mini chips and were made by KP. If I remember rightly they came in 3 flavours, ready salted, salt and vinegar and beef. Don't know if they are still available though.
YUM - salt and vinegar Chipsticks!!!

i'm drooling!
Here in the U.S., they were (and are) called "shoestring fries"... still available but fairly rare (though thoroughly cooked, lest any misinterpreting an attempt at a pun)...
i know the ones you mean best guess, they were like hard potato sticks, they were lovely. and yes, you can get similar in tescos.
i used to love the little red bags of potato puffs, does anyone remember those? really light and potatoey, can you still get them anywhere do you know?
:o)
Burtons made potao puffs and used to love them plain cheese and onion salt and vinegar maybe beef and tomato, fantastic havent had them in years miss em!!!
