Nice try but it is 6 letters and the "E"is in the wrong place. something along the lines of BREERY I think but cannot find it in any dictionaries

Sorry about that, ratrobson. The 6 letters has me stumped a bit. I checked out one of Spenser's sonnets (in Old English) and he has a line that says:

Sweet is the Rose, but grows upon a brere.

Old English also has the alternative spelling of this as "breere" - maybe that is the answer.

Chambers has:-

breare (Spenser) same as brier

brier a wild rosebush
