  1. I've heard that iPods can be used in car sound systems these days. How do you go about installing it?
  2. Can other mp3 players be used in this way?

Help is greatly appreciatted as always, Gray :)

In America there's a device called the iTrip; a low-power transmitter that plugs into your iPod and broadcasts its output on an FM frequency that you then tune your car radio into.

Car manufacturers are also starting to provide for direct iPod integration in their in-car audio systems. I think that the new range of Mercedes feature a dedicated iPod docking station.

Just to add to prevous answer i have an Itrip and the sound quality coming through the FM is not good, maybe I havent found the best frequency yet, but if I had known before I wouldn't have bought one.
The iTrip is illegal in the UK (something to do with broadcasting licences) so I wouldn't advise getting one.

As far as I'm aware however you can get cables that can input via and aux port on your stereo (if it has one!) or Apple do a cassette interface similar to the old Discman.
