Just to get a consensus, those of you who have been to both ther cities, which one do you prefer? Or are they both equally grand?

Secondly, which would you choose to go to Chechoslavakia or Vienna. Money is limited so you need to choose one.

I have been to Paris and Rome, and Rome by a mile.  Had a fantastic time, and walked for miles scared of missing things.  Romans are generally very friendly people and I would love to go back.  Paris has the sights (although I don't think as many), but has more of an attitude.

Personally I prefer Rome to Paris, however Rome's attractions are primarilly (unsurprisingly) Roman ruins whereas Paris probably has a greater variety of sights. DA is spot on about the people though, the average Frenchman from outside of Paris despises Parisiens.

Having been to Vienna, I wouldn't recommend it, very small with few attractions - Prague beats it hands down.

Whoops - meant Bangkok is spot on in above answer.

Note that Czechoslovakia no longer exists as a country - it is now two separate countries: the Czech Republic (capital Prague) and Slovakia (capital Bratislava).

I was interested in seeing Prague really - very highly recommended by friends.

My incredibly biased two pennysworth:

ROME hands down.

PRAGUE hands down.

For all the above reasons and more.  Two of the greatest cities in Europe.

Have to agree with all the above - I adored Paris (and still do to some extent) until I went to Rome, which is the most wonderful city in Europe (imho).

Also would choose Prague above Vienna - the latter now seems quite faded and dated whereas Prague is booming. Prague is also much better value than Vienna, food and drink half the price.

Vienna's great for art - a whole room of Brueghels in the Kunsthistorisches museum. Also, rumour has it that Prague is overrun by British stag parties these days because it's cheap and known for beer. Depends what you want, Brueghel or Budweiser.

Paris is better for art (and closer) too; Rome better for antiquities - the Colosseum and so on - and churches. Both have fabulous food though imho good Italian food is cheaper than good French food.

Rome & Prague definitely.
I also in full agreement - Rome & Prague
Rome Rome Rome.
