Hello
I would like to know the definition of a contract for this case
I have recently placed a bet, paid my money andreceived my bet slip.
I then returned to claim this bet after it won and was told the bet was void.

To my understanding a contract has been formed and they have to pay the result. As soon as they took my money and gave me the reciept this has then establised the contract.
Thank you for your time

But, why was the bet void?
They should refer you to the relevant one of their rules applying to the void bet which should be on display
Ask them Y the bet was void..........maybe the race (or whatever) was cancelled
Why has drisgirl given only a link to a website without any explanation of its relevance - seems a bit suspicious to me - I'm a bit wary of clicking on it. Has anyone done so?
Hi Archie,

I have clicked on that link and it seems to be some snippets from Facebook? (Dunno for sure 'cos I'm not on FB - I don't come on here very often either).

It looks to be conversations about legend.

I don't think Dris posted it, as if you look carefully, her name is slightly different.

Someone is playing around with the site - it seems to be part of a feud between ABers. Last night there was a question related to the same link purportedly from Drisgirl in the AB Suggestions section - today that question has vanished.
It has no relevance to this question.
Gambling contracts cannot be enforced, so you have no redress in law.
Well said, SAD ehel - who says gambling debts cannot be enforced? You really are losing it you tvvat.
Ethel is correct...

Gambling contracts are not legally enforceable under English contract law. I would check with the relevant betting shop's codes of conduct tho, duty of care and all that...

Link re change to gambling legislation
The Gamblifn Act 2005, which came into force on 1st September 2007, repealed all previous legislation, going back to 1710, which prevented gambling debts being enforced. This apples only to those debts arising after 1st September 2007. As I indicated earlier, if the rules are not on display, the bookmaker has breached the terms of his Gambling Commission Operators' Licence so it is worth making this enquiry.
