I was thinking about puddle lane books and the colours of the covers, but couldn't remember the different levels of difficulty, what are they? There were red, orange, green blue and purple, and I think I remember purple being pretty hard, but I was only little.

Also, Penguin books. I saw some George Orwell book with a brown cover, and I thought they were all orange. So later my dad explained to me that they were colour coded and there were different birds as well, but couldn't remember it too well. He is old.

So, could anybody fill me in on all of this because I would quite like to know.

Originally Penguin book covers came in 3 colours: orange for fiction, green for crime, and blue for biography. They also extended into Pelican, King Penguin, etc. Not sure about brown though. This link will tell you more: http://readers.penguin.co.uk/static/packages/uk/aboutus/ history.html
Wasn't 'Puffin' the children's brand?
My youngest daughter is collecting puddle lane books and we know that stage 1 is blue and stage 2 is green then I think it's purple then orange, but we haven't got any of those yet.  We've never seen a stage 5 book so I don't know what colour they are, but I think there are only two of them anyway.
