That is a very big question, I can give you a link to a site that can tell you what you need to know abut DVD writing.

http://www.doom9.org

it all comes down to what format the movie is in ie is it wmv or iso(image file) etc etc

iso's can be burnt straight to dvd using nero but wmv movie files will need to be converted.i use a program called dvd santa that converts the movie to a dvd format and then burns it for you

I assume you mean downloading movies using a P2P program. There are several good ones (ImeshLite,KazaaLite, etc), but the best I have used so far is called BitComet.I use this on an almost daily basis, and have found the download speeds to be brilliant. All you do is search for the movie you want, download it,and then burn it to disc.I use Nero because it automatically converts the file into the correct format for playing on DVD.2 important things you will need are: A broadband connection (without this the download will take days), and finally, a DVD player that can play whichever discs you use for burning your movies.
