How poisonous are batteries if left to the point that they leak?

By batteries I mean the normal zinc cadmium types you use in electronic goods.

They're corrosive and an irritant. Not nice stuff.

Zn is not too bad, Cd Toxic. Put in a plastic bad and Take to a waste disposal centre.
