On my peugeot 306 there is a light on the dash panel that says stop which has lit up. The car is running fine. Is it likely to be anything serious? It's not the handbrake light, it actually says the word stop. The oil level seems fine.

This light might also come on if the brake pads are getting low....

Thanks. Is this going to be expensive to fix? Could it be anything else?
or even a coolant level warning indicator
Check that Oil Filter is not blocked, that brakes are not down to the metal, doors and boot lid closed properly (or door switch broken). Quick way to check brake pad wear is to look at level of brake fluid in master cylinder, if its right down near the minimum there's a good chance your front brake pads need changing. That's providing no-ones been topping it up of course.
Hope this helps.
