it's gone into standby all by itself and won't turn on again. The power button flashes orange. it's not too hot, it had only been on 10 minutes. i can't even work out how to get the battery out. the switch to release it doesn't move.
It's 2 month old toshiba Equiuim A60 with xp.
Any idea?

Sounds like the battery has carked it.  If the mains power is plugged in and switched on, then you might have a broken PSU aswell.
Try holding the power button down for 10 seconds and see what happens.  This should switch it off good and proper.  Then try pressing the power button normally.

I have this a lot with a Compaq Evo, it's nothing more than a pain.  It seems that it just goes into sleep mode with hibernate enabled.  When hibernate is enabled it saves everything (open windows, mouse cursor position, mp3's mid playback, evrything) to your hardrive.  The trouble is that it won't wake up again.  I always have to pull the battery to sort it out.
