May I ask for details of a former emplpoyee? I have no connection with the company involved except receivng mail from them, but I wondered if I had the legal right to ask for contact details, say, from someone who worked at the company and left in February.

No, certainly not.

You can ask the company to forward your contact details to the ex-employee, or send on a letter, but they don't have to agree.
It is generally dealt with (in my experience) by the first of Ethel's suggestions. Busy HR departments don't really want to get involved in forwarding letters, and the ex-employee can easily get the wrong end of the stick and believe their details HAVE been passed on, if they receive correspondence..

Ethel, I thought it was everyone's right under the Freedom of Information Act to disclose such details
That applies to information held on a database about ONESELF, not other people.

You don't have the right to access other people's details at all, thankfully.

The Data Protection Act is only one of many laws that protect an individuals privacy.
If its everyone's right to obtain info under the FOI......then Ab has to give us your personal details?

Don't be daft.......not all personal info is available to others; only yours to you.
