hello
i am currently re-building a 1300 engine to go into my mini, but i have been told that to fit this i would have to convert the rear drum brakes to discs, has anybody done this conversion and roughly the work that is involved and the cost, any help would be most appreiciated.

What a load of tosh, metro turbo's still had rear drums so did the 1275 gt and the cooper S, so unless you are track raceing or rallying the standard rear drums (as long as they are in good condition) will be fine
agree, thats a load of rubbish!

there are far more powerful and heavier modern cars on the road now that still have rear drum brakes.

I'm sure it has been done for serious track based cars but I've seen some pretty powerful minis and I have never seen one with rear discs!

if you have a very old mini with front drums then yes change them to discs, been a lot of years since I done that job but it was complete replacement hub assembly, driver shafts, master cylinder and brake pipes, not a massive job, but then nothing is on a mini :)

P.s. if your serious about rebuilding the engine then ditch the standard SU carb and replace it with a side draft webber 40 or 45 (depending on engine spec). You need to cut a hole in the bulkhead for you air filter but makes a hell of a difference!!
