Yesterday, my 14 year old daughter had to run off her bus with her friends as she started feeling severly hot, dizzy and sick. She started hyperventilating and shaking and her vision was blurred. Her friends had to carry her to their nearby house and i was called.

She was in a panic and felt freezing to touch but was sweating and complained she was farr too hot. After about 15-20 minutes things calmed down. She had stomach pains in the morning and took ibuprofen so we dont know if thats what helped.

Is this just a passing bug or something more serious? She is frightened to go out again incase it repeats. If it does happen again, should i take her to A&E?

Thanks

Do you mind me asking is she at an age where she has started her periods. It could be just lack of iron in her blood, was the stomach ache, period pains? It may just be fainting attacks, I used to get it a lot in my teens and still get it every now and then first thing in morning when Im bleeding, I can suddenly become very dizzy and faint. If you are really worried get her booked in at docs to have a blood test done. If they find nothing then it could just be time of the month and not really much you can do but take extra iron vitamins around that time.
It sounds exactly like a panic attack - extremely frightening if you've never had one.

Book her in to the GP for a check up though.
She had her periods for about 3 months but then stopped for 5 months and this is just her starting up again so that could be it.

Is it normal for her to have stopped for so long and then get this?
either way its not something A & E should be dealing with if it has calmed down.
??? whos rock chick?? and how do you know so much about her. Lol Yes her cycle wont sort itself out for a while at such a young age. And Id say if she hasnt bled for a while and shes starting to again it is more likely she had a dizzy spell from that, didnt quite get to the point of fainting but got the blurry vision and feeling cold and tingly through it
Ethel, when she was younger she was extremely troubled with panic attacks but it was more difficulty in breathing rather than fainting.
Although she really was hyperventillating and shaking this time too so i'm not sure.
Haha i had some confusion over accounts and had to switch to an old one!
Woops! Thanks for reminding me!!
If she is really worried it will happen again, make sure if she starts to feel dizzy again that she stays where she is and either lays down if possible or puts her head between her knees. Tell her to try not to walk to anywhere if she is alone as I used to try and do that and end up fainting somewhere I really didnt want to, in shops mostly. It does sound alot like what I used to go through.
just go to docs and get her to have blood tests to be sure. xx
I had something very similar when I was about 14, my vision went yellow! very scary, but it was a panic attack, she may be feeling anxious about something or several things, sit her down and have a heart 2 heart...hope this makes you feel slightly reassured!
Sounds as if she felt unwell and faint and then panicked about it. This happened to my son.

Personally, I would take her along to the GP who will do some blood tests and possibly give her an ECG. It will put both your minds at rest.

Re. if it was a panic attack - I've known people to have them seemingly quite out of the blue.

A person can seem to be coping perfectly well with whatever life happens to be throwing at them - tricky relationships, exams, money, physical health etc etc. - but inside they're sinking. So even if your daughter appears to have been a healthy, well-balanced individual, that does not preclude a panic attack, which is most often borne of stress.

All I'm saying is, don't rule it out.
Also dont rule out a reaction to the ibuprofen all these symptoms are known side effects of the drug.
I had the exact same thing but i actually had to go to hospital, the feeling cold to the touch but sweating buckets is shock.
If it was a panic attack, which I believe mine to have been, I have never had them before in my life and it was terrifying,.
Also in the case of hyperventilating, keep a brown paper bag to hand, like those you get mushrooms in, so that she can use it to breath into as it forces the body to regulate its breathing.
But most importantly get her to the doctors, because even if it is nothing medical, then they at least can refer her to a councilor.
Good luckXX
i have to agree with everyone else here...it sounds like a panic attack. my friend used to suffer from the same symptons. talk to her about it, if that doesnt help, try the gp.
