What date was a Breathalyzer first used on a motorist?

It came into use in the U.K. in 1967, don't know the exact date. It was originally know as a "Drunkometer".
According to the Shell Book of Firsts, the breathalyzer was first administered in the UK on 8 October 1967, but had been first introduced in the USA  on 31 December 1938
I remember it being 8th October 1967. I was a bridesmaid the day before and everyone was worried that they would get "done" on the way home from the reception. All kept boozing though!

Many thanks for your help everyone, we found the year but couldn't find the date, a couple of other people at work also have the 8th October so it is obviously correct.
