We're off to Greece on Tuesday so I went in the post office to buy some euros to be grreted with the following sign.

"buy 500 or more of euro's or dollar's and receive a better rate."

I asked the assistant who wrote the notice. Apparently it was Christine (sat at the next window) who was the guilty party.

I told her that it was incorrect because there was no apostrophe in 'euros' or 'dollars'.

Yes there is she replied. No there isn't I replied, pointing out to her that nouns, which includes euros and dollars, were not pluralised by adding an apostrophe and an 's'.

I told her that if it wasn't changed, other people, especially children, would see it and assume it was correct. After all, it was in the post office, it must be right.

I really am going now. I'll leave Mr Veritas and leg end to themselves. I think it's only a matter of time before they both spontaneously combust. Oh sorry I will try to use words of one syllable thet they can understand.

Repeat after Auntie Lucy. Catch fire all on their own.
Definitely a Gay Queen,
Only a Queen could be that bitter and caustic.
Probably going to Mykonos in Greece.
Needs plenty of Euros for the rent boys.

Mr gureenlegend,
We have no need to worry about combustion.

A very disappointing thread, and unusually for Lucy Thomas, what an appallingly worded question!

I mean, "I asked the assistant who wrote the notice" ? Wrong wrong wrong. "I asked which assistant had written the notice" would have been much less cumbersome. Sat at the next window? Again, wrong, it should have been Sitting. Told her? No, Pointed Out, it's not the bloody army.

There is far too much nit-picking on this site.
Whiffs, what were you doing up at that time (3.08 am)?
Insomnia or were you keeping AB open? lol
Since you ask, for my dinner I had had (past pluperfect?) a pouch of Sweet and Sour chicken, with Batchelors fiendishly hot instant noodles (bbe Mar 2005), covered in soy sauce and Encona chilli sauce. As a result I had extreme nausea at 0308 and was treating it with ASDA premium cognac (it worked). I thought there was a 50/50 chance of a fight going on in AB so I logged to assume my usual peacemaking role.
Lets face it, lurking at AB with expectations to see argument/s I believe most Chatterbankers are guilty of doing that, I being no exception. :-)
At that time in the morning?? I'd choose my fluffy, warm bed any day :o)
I hope your stomach is feeling much better now and not grumbling. (Don't know what went wrong but this part of my post didn't make it in the above.)
