New kitten advice needed urgently, please...

'Afternoon, all! :) My friend and I picked up her new male kitten on Sunday afternoon and for the last two nights he has cried non-stop! He seems perfectly healthy and although he hides under the sofa a lot of the time, he is very active when he comes out. He's eating okay and using his litter tray, too.

I had initially though she was exaggerating about the miaowing when I went over yesterday, but as soon as it started getting dark he was crying without even taking a breath it seemed! Apparently, her neighbours from upstairs even came down at 3 this morning to ask her to do something. It hasn't stopped today either and it's driving her mad. Any advice, anyone, please? Thanks x x

Kita, actually that's a very good idea about leaving him in a smaller space. It could work. Not a cat carrier though - no room for the cat litter or food! How about a bathroom?

I look forward to your news tomorrow Whiskeysheri or to finding a little ginger and white bundle on the doorstep!! x
Oh, I just thought, leaving a radio on for company can help as well.

(I leave the radio on for my dogs when I go out!! How soft is that?)
Good idea LL! I too have left the radio on in the past and also - though I shouldn't admit it - the TV too for a short period of time when I hav popped down to local shop!!! My pup likes to watch it, as have others before him!!! Glad I'm not the only softie on this section!!!! :o))))
Poor little sausage!!! and he's a real cutie too.. shame he isn't a bit braver! Sounds like he's a bit of a wuss! Persevere.. and all the advice here sounds great. Let us know how he gets on - I'm a big big cat lover... luckily when we got our kittens we got two so they curled up together... Bless....

Fingers crossed!!!
How could that cute little bundle of fluff make any noise? He is really cuddly looking.

I hope that is a temporary hiccup.

I'm looking forward to finding out how last night went!

Fingers crossed.........................
LOL about Pup watching TV Alfie! Our cat still bats the moving images on the screen on regular occasions and then goes round the back of the TV to try and catch them!

Hi, Lottie! Sorry it's taken me so long to post this update; my net has been crashing all day! :(

Well, I collected my tools: the teddy, hot water bottle and clock and went over for the night. We didn't fuss over him when we got in and at about 10 o'clock he came out from under the sofa where he'd been all day and jumped up. We sat as still as we could as he's always been very jumpy and he explored behind the cushions and after a while we decided to try him with the piece of string we had and he was so playful! After that he was all over the flat having a good nosey.

We had planned to put Oscar in her smaller second bedroom for the night with everything he needed, but once he was in there he was crying like he was being killed (drama queen!), so we let him straight out (can't upset the neighbours again!). I set it all back up in the living room and slept on the sofa. When I first turned the lights off (with the telly still on) he did start crying quite a bit, but they weren't as desperate as they've been before. He was quiet after a while, though, and only woke me up a few times in the night with short bursts of miaowing. Not too loud, but he seems to adore the sound of his own voice; he even does it when he's eating and drinking and it sounds like he's gargling. :)

He didn't come to me during the night, but during the evening he was leaning into my hand when I stroked him instead of pegging it, for once. :)

He didn't go near his bed, the cat carrier (which I left open with a blanket in), or his surrogate mummy (teddy, hot water bottle and clock), so I don't think that did much, but he's definitely improved and I woke up to him playing to his cat toys which he hadn't touched previously.

Thank you all again for your help, it's really, really appreciated. :)
Thanks for getting back to us Whiskeysheri (I didn't realise you were named after your cats!).

It sounds as if you are winning and I won't be taking delivery of Oscar :o( !

He is going to be a real character who likes the sound of his own voice!!

Keep us posted from time to time.

xx
He's gorgeous!! If your friend's neighbours get too fed up, can I have him?? K xx
No Kleiber, I get first offer (see earlier in the thread!!)

xxx
