What are the exact grounds as to why the Vatican has opposed bird bishops??

Is there something in their interpretation of the bible that forbids such an appointment?

Yip - all down to that lovely person St Paul, the so-called 'father' of the church.

And it's not just bishops btw - you'll be looking for a while if you try find a female Catholic priest. (Sinead O'Connor doesn't count, sorry).

Oh -it's not just Catholics, the Anglican Church is pretty unusual in that it has priestesses. Most Christian churches don't.
Hmmm, apparently, there would have to be a huge refurbishment of all the conveniences in the churches at a ginormous cost.
At the moment they are all tailored for men.
There are many other reasons but i had better not go through them all. I could go on all night...
Being a proper, sensible and decent Western religion, Christianity doesn't have any stupid or anachronistic rules governing what decent law-abiding folk like ourselves can or cannot do*, unlike all those foreign religions.

* Apart from, of course, eating rock badgers, camels etc., wearing cotton/polyester mix clothes, and talking to menstruating women.
....besides, bird Bishops could never quite have the same influence over the choirboys......
If you have ever seen Leonardo's famous photograph of the Last Supper, you will notice that all of Jesus' chums were chaps. This is a clear message that anyone who is not a chap should not be trusted. Grudgingly, they can be used for bearing offspring, and they are best suited for tidying up.
.... and washing socks. (Oh, and sometimes feet).

(One person in Da Vinci's painting, does look a bit suspect though).
Serious question...why won't the Catholic Church accept female priests/bishops?

I mean...is there an ancient edict or something? I've never really thought about it before, but it seems odd.
My answer above was semi serious. Because Jesus hand chose his apostles, and it was they who would spread the word of Jesus after his death, the fact that hehad not chosen any women, has barred them from the job ever since. I don'tthink there is anything specific written, it is just the established church's literal interpretation of events around last supper time.
That's, of course, if it's true.
maybe women are not as good at spreading a pack of lies?
You could have a point there, Gromit.
A lot of obviously very stupid and deceived men voluntarily gave their lives for the sake of that pack of lies.....
cos thay [women] are inferior....fact....

and its in the bible
Yes.... but the thing is ,in those times life was completely different as to how it is today. Jesus wouldn't have picked out women to follow him, as they married young and had children one after the other! They were then tied to the house and their husband. There were none of todays' conveniences such as washing machines, so the daily chores of a woman's life took an age!No way would they have had the physical freedom to upsticks and follow Jesus wherever he went. The practicalities and the way of life were just not conducive to being a traveller.
Are there any Catholics/Christians here would would like to explain whether they are against female bishops/priests/vicars and more importantly why.
sorry, but this argument that you can't judge by today's standards because it was 2000 years ago just doesn't hold up for one important reason.

The believers of this religion believe the new testament of the bible literally. Therefore they attest to follow the standards set down at that time, but this is a modern world. Therefore, we MUST judge it based on modern standards. Unless the church becomes more fluid and 'moves with the times' they cannot hope to be looked at in any other way. That's the problem with holy books - they don't seem to care what era they're printed in...
I've had a little dig for Biblical sexism, and there are many examples, but this would seem to cover it...

"Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence." 1 Timothy 2:11-12
hallelujah!

amen....

end of...

silly prod women vicars
There you are, Gromit's cracked it. Those women whom the bible tells us followed Jesus (when they weren't having babies) really were only there to wash the socks and feet - and they did it in silence. And obedient as ever, we still abide by that little gem of wisdom, don't we, ladies? Course we do. Wouldn't dare do otherwise. ;o)
