My pokey bathroom....

I live in a house that I have no intention of moving from. Probably 4 or 5 years down the line I will have a two storey extension put on but in the meantime my bathroom needs an overhaul. It well small and I think it would be much better used, if I pulled the bath out and replaced it with a nice shower unit. Everyone tells me this is a bad, bad idea but I really am not looking to move in the near future, its just a matter of whether I could live without a bath. I figured if i fancied a proper soak I could go to my mums.


So what do you think, is life without a bath miserable?

When we moved into our house 6 years ago, there were only showers. We had one removed and a lovely large luxury shower installed (greater wingspan room rather than jet-nozzles, etc).................

I had a bath installed 18 months ago........I have back problems and lying in the bath with a good book and a cuppa slowly going cold beats even the most sophisticated shower units.............

Short-term is fine but you may find as time continues you'll miss the bath................

I'm having exactly the same problem.. but I like washing my hair over the bath, not in the shower. I also looked into getting a tiddly bath going across the bathroom (about 1300mm) but it hardly seems worthwhile. I've now taken a loan to get the bathroom done, but am still stumped! if the bath goes and a shower cubicle goes in, I may be able to get a loo in there (mine is downstairs) but then it'll looked really cramped again.

I know I would really miss having a bath and so would my children. You can't play with a rubber duck in the shower.
One of the nicest thing for me about having a bath is wraping myself up in a fluffy towel, potttering about til I'm dry then getting straight into bed. Wouldn't be the same if I had to get dressed and then make my way home from somewhere else, especially in the winter. Brr..

What about a shower bath, you can buy them in smaller sizes 1500 and 1600. They are shaped like a letter P the wider end measures 800 narrowing to 700 leaving you more space.

I can't remember the last time I had a bath! I always use the shower and although I would probably use the bath once in a blue moon I wouldn't really miss it. I also hate cleaning the bath so that would be one less chore.

yeah our bathroom is really small we are taking our bath out and putting just a shower surround and shower in ....if we go to sell the house we would put the bath back in in case it puts people off ..

Hi Goods...................when I renovated the place I'm in now - I put in two shower rooms and no bath....................can't be doing with lying in all that dirty water................eughhhhhh

How about putting a shower over your bath, and having a shower curtain or screen.
That way it doesn't take up any more room and you have the option of both.

It's been a long time since I was able to get in and out of a bath , and I don't miss it now. The occupational therapy got a grant from our council for me , and a firm put a walk-in shower wet room in my bathroom . It's ideal for me and is stylish and modern , and has made the bathroom much bigger Goodsoulette . xxx

This is your HOME and you should do with it whatever improves your life.

I know it is said that it is harder to sell a house with no bath - but that is investment, not a home.

I can't get in and out of a bath (many older people can't) and haven't had a bath in my house for a very long time.

When was the last time you had a bath? If it was more than 6 months ago, you won't miss it

Yes it is. Don't do it. I am female but my son who only had a shower cubicle at Uni said that he really missed a bath. Hang on in there!

my son has a bath then washes him self down with the shower ...that takes him 1 hour ..

1) Showers are greener

2) Showers are cheaper

3) Showers are quicker

4) Showers don't make you wallow in your own filth

5) Showers are safer

6) Showers are more practical

7) If the bath and toilet are in the same room you or you kids could use the loo whilst you are in the shower but in the bath, may cause embarrassment.


Apart from in a hot tub, I haven't had a bath in about 15 years.

And if your bathroom is pokey, I would say best option.

I think I am gonna go for the shower.

Itwould make my life less cluttered, i could then stick all my bathroom stuff actually in the bathroom then.


Thanks for all the answers. The only time I actually enjoy a bath is when I don't have the kids around, which isnt often. BY the time they are old enough to stop knocking on the door everytime I go in the bathroom then I Should have the moneys to make house bigger. I have family near by so Ill just soak in their baths if I really fancy one.
