We are looking for some beautiful classical music for my sister in laws funeral. I do love to hear the music, but Im afraid I have no idea of titles. We want something to play as people are coming into the room, something a bit like the BA advert but not actually that. Any ideas would be most welcome. Thank you.

If you want classical funeral music, two of the best pieces are:

which is the Dead March from Saul, by Handel; and

which is Purcell's music for the funeral of Queen Mary II

There are zillions of other pieces you could use; this piece

is Vaughan Williams' Fantasia on a theme by Thomas Tallis.

Or there's this piece, which you may recognise if you've seen Shawshank Redemption; it's the Sull'aria from Mozart's Marriage of Figaro

I particularly like track 7 in this list - you can hear a snippet on the site. I'm sure you know it:

This song is a nice light classical one

.
You could try Gymnopedies by Erik Satie. Melancholic but really beautiful. Alternatively, not exactly classical music, but have a listen to Only Time by Enya. I've always thought it would be suitable for funerals. Very haunting.
A light piece like "The Lark Assending" by Vaughn Williams

another again not strictly classical, but very nice is the Balcony Scene from Romeo and Juliet, (Classic fm at the movies CD02 Track 12)

These are my favourite pieces , Beethovens, moonlight sonata.

this is the Glasgow love theme, absolutely beautiful and very simple.
