having a dig is never light hearted....however frothy and nice you dress it up, its still a low blow

it was never my intention to aim a dig at anyone.

my apologies to anyone offended,
There are 4 types of people, in my opinion. Those who can spell, and will allow themselves a small lapse from time to time; those who can spell, yet will mis-spell on purpose to be part of a "group"; those who can't really spell, but will make every effort to be intelligible and have a proper conversation; those who can't spell and don't give a hoot if people understand them, because they think they ought to write "as they speak" and be understood no matter what. Those are my 4 categories.
It does matter to me Sara and I'm astounded by some of the incoherrent posts here. I wonder if young people have the ability to write in plain English, instead of text speak.

Lets get back to basics and use correct English, commas and full stops.

I make spelling mistakes on here and grammatical mistakes too. But I do try not to as I wouldn't write an email to a friend or a message on face book with a shed load of mistakes in. While it's not something I judge people on, posts with little to no puntuation or written in text speak are very difficult to read sometimes and I'm afraid I just give up or get bored and move on. I wouldn't pull someone for it but at the same time, I wouldn't sit here trying to decipher it either.

And I like Lucy Thomas.
Velveteen, the use of I`m instead if I am is becoming more prevalent and is in my opinion a degradation of the English Language.

I believe there is a Ban the Apostrophe Society which I may join following this thread.

well hey, I've explained myself as best I can, I've apologised to anyone who may have been offended, and now I'm off to bed before this becomes another smudged painting-gate!

goodnight all :o)
Hi sara3,

I find it strange that you don't start your sentences with a capital letter ........ is this a new way of writing?

I don't like to see spelling mistakes either, but as long as you can understand what someone is trying to say, I don't think it really matters (well, not on CB anyway).

PS: My mistakes are usually because I'm trying to type fast, and I can't!
I am not saying good spelling and grammar are not important, I am saying that people posting should not be continually told off for the slightest thing.

A large body of illedgible text with no comma's or full stops is difficult and can expect people replying to request the poster to explain parts of the post again.

However nit picking because of the odd typo is more irritating than the error itself!

that's true, Cleversod, but the whole truth is that I've only just discovered this rating thing and started looking back over the messages but got distracted by some of the later responses. I then decided I'd just see if I could delete the whole thing as I'd started it. I couldn't see how to do that either, so gave up the ghost.

more offence caused unintentionally, but I'm not going to do a Rex and just keep on apologising.
no need for apologies sara, just acknowledgment of people's points would suffice.

everyone is entitled to an opinion, and I really thought that was the point of such a discussion. I don't judge people, I just wondered if such things matter to anyone else and I asked that question.

I have a (small) handful of O Levels, I'm not trying to come across as uber intelligent or better than anyone else. it was supposed to provoke discussion, which it certainly did but I didn't expect such a slating.

lesson learned.

lost it when i came on here , sorry to say :(
Sara, apologies if my reply upset you in any way. It was certainly not intentional. The thing is, often written words don't sound like you want them to (if you know what I mean). In fact, I think you do, because it happened with your question!

Put it behind you lass, and think of another question. Come on now, anything you like ......... :-)
