mums budgie

my mums budgie has started making a noise that sounds like a squeaky floorboard. the bird does not appear to be ill and is eating and drinking normally. can anyone tell me what going on with her

It sounds a lot like the budgie is overweight. If it is 2+ years old it will not fly much when let out of the cage, in which case it should be fed one teaspoon of seed per day and the rest fresh veges and fruit.

It is a problem with the bird's respiratory system and is quite common.  Take the budgie to the vets.  Antibiotics might help.  Unfortunately, sometimes it cannot be treated successfully and will deteriorate.  However, I have had birds that have lived quite a while in this condition.  Make absolutely sure that the bird is in a smoke free environment.  Birds respiratory systems cannot cope well with smoke.
