Can somebody please tell me why the central pier in Bridlington harbour is called the Chicken Run? I was up their this weekend and nobody we tallked to could give us an answer.

we''ve been going to Brid for years and have always enjoyed it and this thing with the Chicken Run has often come up, but we've never got an answer so any explanations would be greatly appreciated
Maybe it dates back to WW 2, Have heard this before, various places, its when the young men and women (ckickens) would promenade for each other and the young fellers would try and catch their eye

thanks for the answer Druiaghtagh, but the Chicken Run in question is a pier in the centre of Brid Harbour from which the various small fishing boats sail. Just cann't see any connections to chickens

From someone local who says that at one time that particular pier was covered overhead with chicken wire for some reason not known which is why it was called the chicken run. I have put the question to the local paper to see if I get any more suggestions
