I'll take the blue corner... you happy with the red corner AC ?

:)
what lappy was it again?... the drivers should be installed so anything that uses the webcam, such a MSN messenger should work straight off if you start a video chat.

if you have a search through the start menu items you will probably find something to do with the webcam

It's an Advent 5401. I left it with a mate over the weekend and he transferred all me docs + pics etc, but he said he couldn't find any software for the webcam. I've got myself an MSN account (or hotmail, can't remember now), but don't know what to do next xx

Sorry Ethel? Hope that wasn't nasty- we've just been talking bout setting up an appreciation society for you on another thread!! xx
Try downloading Skype and see if that works... Apparently this lappie has caused a few problems with its built in webcam and PC World (who've been selling it) are not being too co-operative !

Oh ffs!! Just my luck! Which Skype should I download? There's loads of entries when i google it x
ok a msn account is the same as a messenger account, which is the same as a hotmail account... once you have it setup you can use it with all the MS services.

I have live messenger installed on my wndows lappy so may be a bit different if you have a older version of messenger.

on live messenger towards the top above your contact lists there is a row of icons, the far right on it the main menu, if you select tools and the webcam settings on this menu it should fire up a webcam window and you can see the pictures from the cam here.

as long as the drivers are installed for the camera then any application that can use the camera will just use it.
LOL Bathsheba... well, that site suggested V3.6 but since V3.8 is now available, why not try that ? (unless the boys tell us otherwise, I am about to do the same hehe)

Thanks Chuck + Juggs- i'll get on to that xxxx
roger ...sorry that could be chuck ... chuck.

d'ya know ... something I've never done is use a webcam as a webcam.
(I think they have a certain reputation with over men who are over 50 (shudder)).

It depends what you want to use it for ... but
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/windo wsmessenger/ballew_video.mspx
is one of the favourites

I read about someone who recovered their stolen machine by identifying the thief using their machine which was feeding to a webpage .....
you could setup bathsheba watch
(in the best possible taste)
I know very little about skype... I run my own VOIP server so have no need to use others so juggle and ethel are the experts on skype as they use it.
LOL Chuck - I am hardly an expert, but it all worked fine for me - free phone calls now.... hehe

Right- just to update you- I've found a help thing for Windows Live, with a cheery bird blathering away taking me step by step through what it does, but Sgt Troy's got History Channel on full blast, so I'll have a go tomorrow when I've got a bit of peace + quiet. Many thanks to all for your help, as usual!
Cheers, mwah, Bath xxx
