Okay so I'm no author and like to write short stories but now I've hit the wall and seem unable to get over this set of writer's block....anyone have any suggestions what I could/should do so I can get over it and maybe avoid it for the future!

As your name suggests, go to the pub half way through the night and sit near a table of people who look like they've been there a long time and have no intention of moving until they've had a skinful. Often, standing at the bar, near a small gathering of men is good. They talk such rubbish most of the time, but they can sometimes come out with a gem of a line that will spark off a scene or a conversation in your head. I have written sketches and even part of a sitcom based on the ridiculous things that I've overheard. Don't forget to take a pad and paper and of course, don't have too much to drink yourself, or you'll find that you can't read your writing in the morning! I know this all sounds a bit banal, but it can help as you are in a relaxing atmosphere whilst you work. Hope your block lifts soon and good luck with the stories!

I think I might take Quizmonster's advice actually. I know not to fret about it as that makes it worse but I hadn't actually considered just carrying on writing as I thought that might also make it worse. Cheers Quizmonster.
It will work!! Promise. I am an artist and the same thing happens occasionally. You just have to keep drawing - or in your case writing - till something comes up, and it will.

Good luck

Worrying about it makes the likelihood of suddenly finding the source almost impossible, as you'll be chucking stuff onto pages whilst almost willing them to be wrong.

When I write properly it's as if the story / verse were coming from outside of me and I'm just writing the stuff down for someone else. It's quite weird but totally 'right' somehow and is so satisfying.

It can happen when I'm really outside of myself - sleep deprivation, depression, overly happy. Therefore, try not sleeping to get yourself into that 'higher plane'!
