for short distances yes. my dad had a dream of keeping homing pigeons but they couldnt fly too far.

For short distances and only about 2ft off the ground, though some lighter breeds such as Bantams can manage to roost in lower branches of trees.

Yes, they can, but not very well. Mine can get up as far as the top of a 6ft fence, but then they give up!
funny anough yes chickens can fly up about a meter off the ground but once up there cant go any where! they fly up but not left, right, forward or backwards! lol which makes me wonder why on earth do they have wings? lol
