I've had an on going problem with a noise nuisance from a nearby working men's club. After 4 years, with the help of Environmental Health it seemed to be OK - no problem for 7 months. Then it kicked off again the other Sunday night. I phoned the club several times but it made no difference. It did stop when a man across the road complained. I reported it to Environmental Health who visited the Club. I then had 3 people (committee members and a barmaid) haranguing me in the street. Then I had the woman who booked the room in the club where the noise had been coming from, come round to my house to tell me off for reporting them and then she wrote me a letter to say I had ruined her evening.
I'm trying not to be angry with her as she knows nothing about the situation but I am mad with the Club for giving out my personal details and winding up this woman so she'll have a go at me.
What is my best course of action?

Personally, id get back in touch with environmental health, give them a copy of the letter you have recieved and inform them of the harassment you recieved from members of the club. I would advise you, due to the harassment and breach of confidentiality, to gain legal advice, either ffrom a solicitor or from the police.
You could also go to your local council and complain about the club, after all it the council that would give them their licence.

Thank you for that ccfluff. I probably will contact the council. Do you think the Club has an obligation to keep my details confidential?

Most definately. You could say they have breached your right to confidentiality in order to persist in a campaign of harassment against you.

Thank you both very much. I can't tell you how helpful it is to have a bit of support, but do I have a right to confidentiality in law? I realise they're behaving very unprofessionally but are they being unlawful?
