can anybody help me with a riddle about 87 people on a boat please

the riddle is

riddle there is a boat with exactly 87 people the boat sank but everyone was rescued but on the police list it said 2 dead how can that be?

Has anybody any idea, tried divers, pets and rescuers I have absolutely no idea.

I guess it could be that there was originally two dead people on board the boat, who were being transported?

Perhaps two of the rescuers died

2 dead were in coffins
