Hi

My father died recently without a will and his name is on the house deeds, how does my mother go about changing the house deeds to show her name?

There is no mortgage as that was paid off years ago.

Many thanks

This is a straightforward transaction and should not involve a solicitor, unless there are factors you haven't mentioned.

The Land Registry will help her,and provide the relevant forms. Contact your local Land Registry by telephone in the first instance:

Thanks very much for that, much appreciated
Dont think that you are quite right here Ethel. The rules of intestacy will apply because there is no will.
Depending on value of the house and the rest of your father's estate, part of it will go to the Spouse (your mother) and the rest will be divided according to the law of Intestacy.
Look up Intestacy on the internet and consult a solicitor.
I assumed that had been dealt with.
