Hi all. Following some excellent advice from Ethel I downloaded Firefox add- blocker, but I'm stumped now (no surprises there then).
Nothing seems any different- what does "Whitelist this page" mean? I haven't a clue what to put the settings to.

Have you got a hexagonal icon in the bottom right, above the clock, that says ABP?

No ethel- it says Adblock, + if I click on it it brings up a box saying Ad-blockable items this page
Have you tried right-clicking on it,and then 'enable ad-block'?
Question Author
Yep- it definitely is enabled. It's mentioning filters, which I don't understand
Question Author
Oh, + it shows a list of "all blockable items on this page". Should I click on something there?
It gets easier once you're used to it.

Download this as well, and restart firefox.

Thanks ethel- I'll have another go.
If I just knew what to do from the Tools page I think I would be ok x

There is plenty of info on the net about using it to its full potential.

When you right click on an advert, you should get the option to block it.
Over time, your blacklist builds up, and they are blocked automatically.
thats not at all how I installed it!

I just went to the tools menu on firefox, selected add ons and then searched for add block plus, once it found it click on install add on, once it was installed and firefox had restarted it asked me to subscribe to a ad list, I just clicked on the top one and click ok and it's automatically blocked 95% of ads
