What is the difference between ordinary boiled and pilau rice you get from an Indian restaurant/take away. I know it sometimes has different highly-coloured grains but it seems to taste the same. TIA

I don't find it tastes the same at all.... the plain boiled rice just tastes of errrr, *plain boiled rice* whilst the pilau rice has a slightly spicy flavour - probably due to the cardoman, cinnamon, saffron and other flavourings added.

Here's a link to an easy pilau rice recipe that I have had great success with http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/database/fra grantpilaurice_67870.shtml
