The red stop light keeps coming on. No other lights are on even though the manual says the stop light can only come on with the oil light. It did this before about 8 months ago for a week but then went off completely. It always starts on a rainy day. Should I be worried?

Check the Brake Light switch above your Foot brake!! It may have come loose, Also check your hand brake Switch the same might have happened here.
Hi...The RED light is the CHARGE light, the ORANGE light is the OIL light.

Is the battery running down ?

If the RED light is on that could be one of two things or two things.

1. The alternator isn't charging - It's Broken it may be answers 2,3,4
2. The alternator belt is slipping and needs tighting
3. Water o the rainy day is splashing on the electrics causing a short.
4. Water on a rainy day is making the belt slip.

Does the RED light stay on on tick over and go off when you rev ?

Is there a sound like a cat being killed coming from the belt ?...This is the belt slipping.

NEVER PUT YOUR HANDS UNDER THE ENGINE BAY OR NEAR ANY BELTS OR PULLEYS WHILST THE ENGINE IS RUNNING- YOU RISK LOSING A FINGER.

My advice : Get someone you can trust to try and tighten the alternator belt, check for wear and replace if need be.
Check underneath to see if a splash panel is loose, and allowing water to splash on alternator.
Failing that get somebody to put a electriacal tester on the battery and check for a charging voltage.

Good - Luck

Thanks. The red light just says stop on it, not a symbol. The car is running fine and not making any noise. The light stays on for a bit, then flashes for a bit. Depends what mood its in.
If it is the hdi engine have someone look closely at the crankshaft pulley. On these engines the pulley has a habit of breaking up which can cause the symptoms you describe. you normall get a bit of noise from the alternator area to warn you its about to give up.
