hotwiring a diesel

is it possible to 'hotwire' a diesel? (not intending to but it came up in conversation!).

When you hotwire a petrol engine, all you are doing is activating the ignition and the starter. You can do exactly the same on a diesel, the only difference being the 'ignition' circuit will power the fuel pump and the like. When I used to work on site, I once hotwired a 50tonne mobile crane when the driver forgot his keys! So yes, it is possible.
