How do I pull a sickie convincingly on Monday??  What are the tried and tested best routes and should I involve  Mr Sunflower in the dreaded 8.30am phonecall?  Please note I am not one to do this as a rule, just that there is somewhere else I'd much rather be on Monday.

dodgy indian takeaway on the saturday night came out of u on the sunday night and u are still suffering the effects of diaoria even today on monday! pharmacist says that it should work itself out of u after 48 hours and lots of water so u hoep to be back tuesday morning all being well

Say you are moving to Glasgow - we have a holiday here.

Who is Mr Sunflower?  Just phone and say you weren't well all weekend but don't sunbathe or you'll give the game away.

diahrroea and vomiting usually make the grade. Don't involve Mr Sunflower, if you make the call. Sounding suitably ill, it is much more convincing. Remember to say you're going back to bed and putting on the answerphone/unplugging the phone if you intend to go out. AND DON'T GET SEEN.

Have fun Monday whilst I'm at work!
But dont sound too ill or you'll sound like you are putting it on!  its best to do this as soon as you wake and complain of a migrane, you will sound suitably groggy!

Please don't make it anything highly infectious ! The news will filter round that you are off with plague and it gives a lot of anxiety to some workmates, when am I going to catch it sort of thing ? And don't moan and groan when you phone in.

Best thing though, is to be straight and ask outright if you can take a duvet day or unpaid leave, save you the stress of lying on Monday morning.

But hang on, don't you have any annual leave left to take ? Seems a bit odd to have used up all your allowance this early in the year.

Thanks for the advice all - am suitably nervous already.  The ***** it is methinks.  Sod_the_ m25 you will hate me for this but I'm a teaching assistant about to get 6weeks' paid leave...................the only trouble is I can never really ask for extra time off in term-time.  Sports day for MY kids Monday, just don't wanna miss it.
Hope you don't actually get whatever you give as your excuse - often happens .

13 weeks paid holiday per year should be enough for anybody.

Most working parents have to miss sports day etc etc.

Silly Moo I can empathise etc, etc; I've been there too.  This is my career choice now and it works for me (and as you can probably tell I have never pulled a sickie in my life.) Like many I have missed sports days before - I ain't going to this year. You sound sceptical; not sure if you meant to.

By the way the holidays more than make up for the wages I take home every month.

I'll do my best to not REALLY get sick; thanks for the concern. x

Remember the golden rule, if you're ill, you HAVE to take TWO days off not just one, else it looks like a hangover/skive....good luck

Duh it doooo easy, just say you have heat stroke.  You were out all day sunday, in the sun, and then it got to you later in the evening.  I have had heat stroke before and man was I ill.  I was sat out in back garden having my late lunch with a glass of wine.  I stayed out for about 3 hours, and I had my back to the sun for most of it.

I was then laid out for about 48hours.  Everytime I sat uo I had to lay back down flat.  I was all dissorientated and dizzy, and was just being sick all the time.  I had a wet flannel over my forehead for ages, and I was just buring up.  You use this excuse and your made.  You dont have to be nice and brown, because you had your back tyo the sun.

Here's the technical bit... Your hypothalamus is sittuated at the back of your head/neck.  This is what regulates your body temp.  If it heats up too much, you get sun stroke/heat stroke.  You pass out, and feel like crap for days....groan...

Happy pretend suffering x

Alcazar 13 I am going to sit and think about what you suggest...I have to say I like it........I could start believing it myself, it sounds so good. (I know heatstroke is true, of course) Thanks it's one  to ponder tonight.

Did you do it? How did it go? Did your son/daughter live up to your high hopes of athletic expectations? Do tell of the egg and spoon race

nfn I took the easy option as I was a bit nervous and I left a message on the answer machine at 7.30, cheeky me!  Glad I did it, my kids were so glad I came and they did good (no egg and spoon, was all teamwork, they were ALL winners.  Head teacher a bit too PC but that's another story..)  Back in to explain myself this morning.
I know what you mean about PC gone mad. My boy's 5 and this year they had non-competitive sports day! In the junior school they are still (at the moment) having competitive sports but by the time they get to High School it's all competitive. Not all schools around here adopt the same policy so my concern is at age 11 there will be an awful lot of kids not playing to win. My boy plays football with a fantastic coach who not only instills the play to win ethos but also to play extremely fair. Anyone not playing by the rules is soon running round the field. If the player does it twice the whole squad does the run. Not many try to cheat! Hope they all made suitably sympathetic noises about your illness!!!

just tell your boss, or better still, someone else if you can, that you are suffering from stress/anxiety/depression/panic attacks and that you can't come in because you have an an (emergancy) appointment to see your doctor that morning (trust me, I work in a doctors surgery, its always a good one lol,).

Or if you have children, just use something along of they are ill/person who looks after is ill/car trouble, etc, and is no-one else you can get to look after them at such short notice.
