So the doctors say that the best way to avoid the sun's harmful rays is ... to stay indoors.

Well, all those years of medical training have paid off then !!
Everyone seems to say that sun lotion loses its effectiveness. So you shouldn't stick it in the cupboard until next year, because it won't work any more.

joggerjane are you being sarcastic? If you are then of course I am aware the best way to avoid sun damage is to stay indoors.

It's just I like the sun and now am unsure if I should wear sunscreen or not?

Unfortunately they don't say which. But I'd go on using it, just in case. It certainly prevents sunburn if used correctly, whatever it may do for cancer.
