Well thats just daft, not putting a subtitle button on it, here you go this is how to turn them off... (taken from the manual)

You can choose your desired languages for Sound, Subtitles
and Interactive (data) Services (depends on broadcast).
1. Press [MENU], select the SETUP menu and press [OK].
2. Select LANGUAGES and press [OK].
3. Select Subtitles, Data Services or Audio using / .
4. Use / to choose the desired language or Off to
suppress Subtitles.
5. To exit menu press [QUIT].

Marvellous! I will now dash indoors from my computer shed in the garden and put it to the test - standby for developments.......

It worked! IT WORKED!! Thank you so much - my local "EXPERTS" here in Swindon were useless; I've only used Answerbank in the past to cheat at competitions but from now on I'll use it to settle all my problems!!
Thanks again ChuckFickens. xxx
Hehe... our Chuck boy is a clever lad you know !
Or you could read the manual, either the one that came with the machine, or download it.

I do not have a manual and have searched the web in vain for a copy I could download: if you can give me a site ref I would be grateful.
I believe this is the correct manual, It's where I got the above details from anyhow

ManyThanks ChuckFickens, most helpful - have printed it out, should have no further problems! As an octogenarian I find much of IT confusing (in spite of a wartime background in RADAR!) - the manual for my digital camera runs to 98 pages so have not printed it out, saved it on my hard disc for future reference! Thanks again. Brian.
