I went out to a disco/club for 4 hours 2 nights ago and my ears have been constantly 'ringing' (if you know what I mean) ever since I left the club. Usually I get ringing for about an hour after I get home but then it's ok. Has anyone got an advice/tips about it or how to stop/improve the condition? It's driving me mad!

Sounds like you could loose your ear or even worse both of them

wear ear plugs !!!!
it sounds like it may be "tinnitus," a condition that I myself suffer from. And one of the leading causes of it is exposure to loud music. I got it from a mixture of that and a drug experience in college (they've showed a weak link between tinnitus and taking ecstasy based on testimony from people). Anyway, the bad thing is that there is no real cure for it...certain herbal remedies are available - to what avail, I'm not sure. Turning down loud music and other similar situations are the best advice that I got from my doctors. I've had it for over two years. There is a little optimism in it: my doctor says it tends to disappear after some years.

ps. using things like electrical fans, etc. helps to drown out the ringing while sleeping, or tune a radio station to an AM station that just gets static to see if that helps.

Hopefully though, you don't have it. Just give it some time - no discos for a while.
by the way, that's what tinnitus is: ringing in the ears. The medical field is not real clear of what it is, but exposure to loud music (esp repeatedly) can damage the nerve fibers in the inner ear. So when it is quiet around someone, their inner ear still behaves like there IS loud sounds coming. Bascially, the ear doesn't know when to shut itself down from such loud situations. It's quite theoretical...and it also sucks. But it's not that bad; whoever gets it will get used to it.
I also have tinnitus, from seeing an appalling band support The Bangles a few years ago. The Bangles sounded great but this other band were truly dreadful, and ever since that night I have had constant hissing in my ears, sounding like a million crickets. What's worse is that I am a musician by trade and NEED my hearing to be good. It is true, you get used to it, but I now have the TV on all night so that my ears are distracted by that rather than by the noises in my head.
I am sure that what you've described is only temporary MissSurfer. It's happened to me in my club/concert going days as well and it does pass.

Well I'm only 15...I don't go out very often - only once every few months. I'm careful with my ears...I was worried when I was in there but I couldn't get out (I couldn't leave early as it was an under 18s event and you must wait til the end).  Oh well...hopefully it will go.
