The best way to check things like this is to do a search in Google for the name.

I searched for Joel E Jacobs and found no hits related to jazz.

I took out the "E" and just searched for Joel Jacobs and found this site:

You really should try Google, almost any question can be answered by a few searches in Google.

As you can see, I found the answer to your question even though I had never heard of the guy.
