Just changed my car and this one is a bit bigger engine than I have been used to. I put in 30 worth of petrol and it has done approximately 180 miles, so how much is that to the gallon? Just a thought, if it is sold in litres, why do we still talk about it doing so many miles to the gallon?

at a guess around 30mpg

that is without knowing how much you paid per litre of fuel
Roughly 32.5 MPG thats without getting calculator out,
But it's not far off.
Good guess, Cazzz.

According to the BBC earlier today, the current average price of petrol, in the UK, is 113p per gallon. Based on that figure, your vehicle has averaged 31mpg, to the nearest mile. (30.82mpg for the pedantic!)

Chris
Of course a lot depends on price per litre, wich varies a lot from one petrol station to another,
cool, I did that in my head as well!!

Thanks, typical of me to change to a gas guzzler just when the price of fuel is going up.
Buenchico - where in the UK is petrol 113p. per gallon? I thought we were paying 5 + a gallon.
Hi FoxLee2

I've just been reviewing my posts this evening. As I did so, the thought occurred to me that I might have stupidly typed 'gallon' instead of 'litre'. I've revisited this thread in the hope that nobody had spotted my gigantic goof. However, I'd reckoned without your eagle eyes. Oh well, c'est le vie!

Chris
Sorry, Chris - I feel bad now for picking up on your 'goof'.
Oh, please don't feel bad, FoxLee2. With nearly 10,000 posts on AB, I expect to make a few errors from time to time ;-)

I rest my case Chris, even you still say gallons. Lets start a campaign to do away with litres, and maybe the price will go back to what it was when they changed to gallons. It was obviously a government conspiracy, as was decimalisation.
Whats next - doing away with miles and making it further to travel anywhere?
