Recently there have been a spate of posts that have attacked Islam using some barbaric cultural behaviours (honour sic, killings), to try and evidence the belief that Islam supports violence towards women . The (debate or diatribe) has seemed a bit one sided.

So this may be of interest

"Burkas. Veils. Stoning. Powerlessness. Weeping mothers of children killed in sectarian violence. These are the images prominent in the U.S. media and that of other Western nations when it comes to Muslim women in the Arab region. In an eight-part series of stories about women and Islam, correspondents in the United States and in the broader Muslim world will report on the strategies adopted by Muslim women to respect their faith and culture, while insisting on the right to participate fully in their societies, to be heard not as Western-style feminists but as women of faith who are equal"

I am still not convinced about the value of any religion, but many of those I love and respect do, but then some of them also think football is important.

21:31 If you fear Islam, then the extremists have won.

Losers.

Yes it's the 95% that make the 5% look bad.
Brionon "losers" was for me and before you start jumping for joy at the prospect of an AB creationist schism, it refers to the match on Sunday where his team Arsenal beat my team Everton.
I'd love to know where you get your 5% from.
But I agree extremist Christians, extremist Muslims, extremist Hindus and extremist atheists give humanity a bad name, it is they we should oppose.
Yes, extremists are the real problem. However extremist includes anyone who claims that their beliefs should be adhered to by everyone just because some crappy old book says so.
Yes, extreme atheists can also be quite malevolent.
Noami24 has answered the question greatly!

The treatment of woman in Islam difers according to cultures.
As a female British Muslim, working professionally & providing my bit to the society that i belong to...i am disappointed by the remarks of some individuals. Do you truly believe that all Muslims are fundamentalists? How many Muslims do you actually know...??

Genuinely, you should open your mind and understand a bit more about the religion & not be brainwashed by what the media feeds. Islam is a very liberating religion & as a female i am happy. I am comfortable in the way that i dress & i do not have to wear a veil covering my face or a clock - it is a choice that the woman herself has made. I respect woman who choose to dress the way they do, who are confident enough to walk around in tiny little mini skirts...she's comfortable in herself & tht is why she is able to do that!
I respect & appreciate all religions. I agree that fundamentalists do exist amongst us, but that is something that history will show has existed in/from all religions and not just Islam.
Fear comes from the unknown, so read up a little on what it is that Muslims believe & you will have an insight into what we believe in.
Peace out :-)
