anniebird just wants a shag.
if i was a single mum with a little boy and neeed a nanny a properly qualified male with good references would be my first choice, not sure about if i needed one for a little girl though. My daughter is doing an early years child care college course at the moment, and there are 2 boys on the course so maybe they are looking to fill a gap in the market :-)
I don't think I would.Nothing against them it's just my personal opinion.
Sensible answer lorri.
If as Lori24601 suggests they have a proper qualification, clean crb and good refs, why on earth not (for either a boy or girl)?

Quite sexist in this day and age - I bet you lot would be on here ripping a man to bits if they suggested a woman is not right for a particular job purely because she's a woman!

If you ever have to make that decision I'd make sure they don't get wind of your reasoning's or you could face a discrimination tribunal.

I would definitely hire a manny, could see no reason not to.
only if he was a submissive slave

and then he would do all your housework as well
If he had all the right credentials and fitted the bill I could see no problem hiring a man as a nanny.

Manny Poppins doesn't have the same ring to it tho, does it?
sure!

I had a male friend who worked as an au-pair for a year!

If I had a good feeling about the person I would not care if male or female!
I'm responding a bit late but I've been on holiday. I would definitely hire one - if I were in the situation where I needed one. A lot of guys these days are really not ashamed of being seen to like children as much as women do and it's great that children can now see both sexes as equal whilst they're growing up.
I wouldn't farm my children out to a manny OR a nanny. You have them, you look after them yourself.
Stars for Ice Maiden...She`s hit the nail right on the head
Thank you Elvis. I had the chance of hiring a nanny when one of my children was diagnosed with autism, and I had to devote a lot of time to him, but I refused. I had them, so they're mine and their father's responsibility.
Good on ya!, ...every parent knows looking after kids 24/7 can be a pain in the ass sometimes but it`s the knowledge of seeing their quirks and characters shine through that makes it all worthwhile rather than coming home from work and hearing someone saying they said mumma or dadda
I totally agree with Ice & Elvis: I didn't farm mine out either and it was wonderful to see them growing up and always be there for good, bad or indifferent. Could farm them out now they're 'young adults' though! Soz, joking. I don't see any reason why a guy couldn't be as good as some - or better than some, or worse than some - females at the job though.
I pretty much disagree with Elvis and Ice.Maiden.

Having help does not make you a bad parent,
I hate it when people try to make you feel guilty with statements like that!!!

Not that it works with me, though!
I know my son is in the best of hands!
