Last night when on the computer something landed on my desk and was on its back buzzing. I thought it was a moth at first, but when I turned it over and it climbed on my pen, I could see it had a hard beige coloured shell, and it had two sort of little hands sticking out at the front. It was about an inch long, and looked quite scary. I quickly whipped it out into the garden and launched it over the fence into my neighbours. Any idea what it was?

it is to late now , it belongs to your neighbour ???????????
It was most likely a Maybug (Cockchafer).

Their larvae are considered crop pests because they devour roots.

Thanks gen2, thats definitely the little b*stard. The 'leaves' on the antennae definitely look like little waving hands. As I am in East Anglia, I think I will stick to the local name 'Billy Witch'.

Thanks supastar, your comment about my mother is not appreciated, as she is in fact dead. So why don't you now go away and stop being offensive and insensitive, as we find your comments unhelpful and childish. I have reported you to the Ed and hope you get terminated.
