Hi mizi - someone else said this as well. Isn't the new download the one you have to pay for? And...won't it just be to let you know that it's in your download folder somewhere, ready to activate? Oh dear...wish I'd never started this now. hope you get it sorted. x
Look in Add/Remove Programs for AVG Security Toolbar.

While you are there I would just remove AVG altogether. They have ruined a good program.

Switch to Avast or Avira.
I've been using Avast for over a year and I'm pleased with its overall performance.
just switched to avast and i must admit it seems a much better programme than avg and its still free unlike the grabbing gi*s avg.

AVG 8 was released on 24/4 and its still free,i got it from filehippo.I noticed avast is also on there,if i have any problems with this i will give that one a try.I have got rid of the toolbar, many thanks.
Thanks mizi. I've been getting AVG promotional updates, but when i clicked onto it, you needed to pay. That's for AVG 8, and from the official source, so if i can get it for free, I might have a go. I run it along with Spybot S & D, and also Ad-Aware. They find much more than my old Avast used to.
A search in google on "AVG Free" finds you the free version in seconds. Get it here

During the install if you watch each screen carefully there is an option to NOT install the tool bar.
I downloaded the free version last night and was given the option to install from AVG's own server or their recommended supplier, I tried their recommended route and ran into problems and the download speed was only 28KBPS, I retried from their own server and all was OK with a download speed of 280 KBPS
avg always have a free anti-virus, but thats all it is, just anti-virus
