Italic format??

I have seen a few replies from users,using italic format.
How does one do that then??
I must be a bit blind or something, as there must be a font change somewhere.Is it under the heading View,then look in Encoding section.I've looked in this but I cannot see an italic font change.It's not important,but can anyone help??

I really love the Scottish accent,the nooooo.
Och i,the noo.I'll have to buy meself a wee kilt just in case I go up north to bonnie Scotland.I will have to wear my Calvins though.It can be very,very cold up your way.
I will have to leave AB soon.My eyes are getting a bit droopy looking at my TV monitor.I was up very late last night!
