Almost everything you want to do on a computer is explained somewhere on the internet.

I did a search in Google for Thunderbird (thats all, just the one word) and after looking at a couple of sites found this.

Hope it helps:

You may need to get some of the information off your Internet Service Provider (ISP) if you have not already got it (or it may be on their web page).

On the account setup page you have a choice between POP and IMAP.

If you are using a standard ISP I think you need POP selected, not IMAP. Check with your ISP.
Just to clarify something (trying not to confuse you).

These 3 examples I have given you all differ slightly. This is because setting up your mail will differ depending on which ISP or organization you are with.

In the FIRST example I pointed you to the person select IMAP.

In the second and third examples the person select POP.

Probably the third example is the nearest to what you want.

My guess is that you need to select POP.

If you do then you need the name of your incoming mail server and your outgoing mail server as shown in the third example.

Get them off your ISP.

For example I am with blueyonder and in those fields I put:

pop3.blueyonder.co.uk

smtp.blueyonder.co.uk

Yours of course will be different.
