PSP Custom Firmware

I've finally just bought myself a PSP and have been told that its firmware (3.71 m33.3) is very er, useful!

I'm assuming this means it's along the lines of a modded console that allows the use of copied games etc, but I'm a complete novice with PSPs so can someone please let me know exactly what I have on my hands here?

PSP is a powerful image processing program and as far as I am aware, the current version is V11. I am not aware of being able to use it for playing any games.

I have been using PSP for the last 2 years and can recommend it as a High-end image manipulation program at a fraction of the price of Adobe Photoshop.

Aah, the wonders of abbreviations. There seems to be some confusion here between Play Station Portable and Paint Shop Pro.
