Large deer occupying Boswell's biographer (5) I've got ELAIN as the answer; it's the A in there that I'm unsure about. What is the logic of the clue?

Elain is, I believe, the Welsh word for a fawn or deer. Boswell: I can't see the link
Charles Lamb was known as Elia ..I think he wrote a biography of Boswell ..

Thank you. Yes, I can see it is Elkin now - kicking myself as I've been reading his novels since about 1975.
