Its a hormonal problem the same as when teenagers get acne. There are things the doctor can do to help get rid of the spots,I have to say though,I have tried most and the only one that worked for me was the contraceptive pill called Dianette. I am 40 in 2 months time and still have acne :-(
BTW............34 is NOT middle aged.lol
Early menopause
Menopause whether early or not is not a reason for adult acne, wherever did you get that idea KAE21?
Are your periods regular or irregular? Do you gain weight easily and is your body hair becoming more noticeable? Do you have an increase in facial hair?

If yes to some or all of these questions, then maybe you have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. But the only way to know, is by having a Gynaecological scan and blood tests. You should probably see your doctor.

Velvetee, I'm a bloke!
It's someone else I'm thinking about, who eats healthily, who does'nt drink (at all) and prefers warm water to tea. So I'm curious as to the problem and solution.
What is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome?
Thanks for your answers.
34 prime of life I know, oops!
Picks teeth up off the ground.
KAE21 is quite right, menopause is definately a cause of acne is some women - hormonal changes and all that. wherever did you get the idea that it isn't daffy??
there are many things which can cause acne in a 34 year old woman and unfortunately some are stuck with it forever. i myself have to take oxytetracyclene daily and have done for many years. if i stop taking it, after about 3 months it all breaks out again. there are various treatments available and it is well worth seeing a doctor to find one that suits.
I got the idea that it isn't by research.I am going through the peri menopause so have researched considerably and not one reference was made to adult acne on any of the websites or publications that I have seen.
maybe if you join a menopause forum you'll find lots of ladies who suffer from it although it isn't down as one of the 35 recognised symptoms. as with many menopause symptoms, some suffer from it and some don't. i am currently in menopause, having been through peri-menopause myself for 10 years.
i'm not trying to be difficult daffy, but it definately is something some menopausal women suffer from, for the reason i've already said - hormones. if you google 'acne and menopause' you can read about it.
I just posted a reply but it disappeared into the ether.lol.
I have suffered acne all my life since I was 10 years old ethandron,I started puberty really early and I think that is why I have started the peri menopause so early(37 when it started).
There is a new acne treatment in testing at the moment that I am hoping to be able to trt soon. I have had acne now for 30 years and I think I deserve a break (cure?) from it !!!

you and me both daffy. mine flared up dreadfully immediately after the birth of my two sons, and has never settled down properly. my eldest son has unfortunately inherited it from me and has had a course of roaccutane, which worked well at the time, but eventually it all came back. he was offered a second course but decided not to as he hated the way it made him feel. he now takes oxytet all the time too. i've learned to live with mine and rarely wear make-up or give it a second thought now. i do like the summer months though, as the sunshine definately helps.
i hope you have success if you manage to try the new treatment you posted the link to. acne is an awful thing to live with, although not life threatening it really can have a devastating effect on a persons life and confidence.
