Hey, wondering if anyone can remember the song that was played on a Gales advert in the 90s. The advert described types of bread that Gales (honey?) could be spread upon. The song began "woke up this morning and found a jar of gales in the cupboard..." and then continues "i like gales on my toast". Remember seeing it on TOTP2 ages ago so it is a real song

Thanking you in advance!

..it sounds to me like a  parody on Desmond Dekker's "Israelites"..but then again I'm only assuming as I cant really recall this ad...

I think the 'Israelites" was parodied for Vitalite margerine, ermintrude.

I don't remember the Gales advert, oli, but it sounds like a parody of "Toast" by the Streetband.

An annoying little record from 1978, featuring a certain Paul Young. It was mainly a ****-er-ney talky-type of song with the words " a little bit of TOAST !" liberally scattered throughout. Can't remember the lyrics apart from

"Brown bread, white bread

All sorts of *something* bread,

It comes in funny packages with writing on the side.

TOAST !

(Just alittle bit of) TOAST ! "

Or something like that.

An execrable record that should have been incinerated in the toaster and not thrust into the nation's bread basket when it wasn't kneaded.

The censored bit is 'cockney', but hyphenated to imply a "gawd blimey, Mary Poppins" falseness about it.

Hi trilobite/brachiopod

Yeah turns out it is indeed a take on 'Toast' by Streetband.

I downloaded it quite promptly and although not as clever/amusing as I remembered , isnt TOO bad!
