My daughter has just been offered a 75% bursary for a wonderful private school in our area.
This is a fantastic opportunnity for her, she works so hard and deserves it fully.
However there is still a decefit of 6000 for me to find to make up the remaining fees, as a single parent family with another, younger daughter to look after and with no help from their father I have no means of finding this extra cash even if it is paid on a monthly basis.
Does anyone know of a trust or foundation I can apply to for the outstanding funds please?
Or maybe a site that can point me the right direction?
Thanks in advance.

If you cannot afford to pay then don't go private
i just wanted to say congratulations to your daughter, although i don't know the answer to your question. I didn't realise that private school was so much money!24,000 pounds a year?!!!? You have to ask yourself if its worth it really. If your daughter is bright then she will shine in the local comp too and can work just as hard there.
I would imagine you might be better off tracking down her father
This sounds like full Boarding Fees. What about her going as a Day Pupil. That should be cheaper.
What about asking the school itself if they know of any trusts or foundations?

good luck, I hope you manage to get her in. I looked at private schools myself for Mini Boo but after seeing the prices per term realised it was wayyyyyyyyyy out of my league :-(

Suzyboo if I was still working and not a full time carer for my mother I might just have been able to afford it.
But my daughter who is a wonderful, kind and generous young lady and helps me with her grandmother with no fuss whatsoever, has been given an amazing opportunity and I will do mey best to make sure she seizes it. I really do not understand people like you who trawl sites like these just to leave negative and critical answers. Does it make you feel better about yourself?
Thanks for your encouraging comments bednobs, the fees are for two years in the sixth form. I know exactly where her father is but believe me he is no help.
Hello anniebird, these are day fees.

Ah, thanks Boo!
The school has advised me to go to the library, apparently there is a section dedicated to educational grants so I'll be checking that out.
Don't know if this site will be of any help kittylitter?

Worth a look anyway :-)

You are very sensitive if you feel that that was negative and critical. It was no reflection on how lovely your daughter is or your personal circumstances rather than a practical response from someone who feels that private education is frequently overrated. Since she has done well enough up to this point to be offered this place I am sure that she would be successful in any 6th form
Question Author
No I'm not sensitive Suzyboo.
Im bewildered.
I truly do not understand people like yourselves who have no idea of the answer to said question and post negative comments when they know they are going to be of no help whatsoever.
I posted this question as I genuinely needed help and advice, not for someone to give me an opinion that is of no use to me.
Did you really think I was going to look at your opininated answer and say, 'That Suzyboo's got a point! Let's just forget it!'?
You're wasting my time and yours.
Do you feel better for that outburst? I hope so
Question Author
Outburst?
Who's sensitive now?

Have you tried asking the school if they may offer a full Scholarships at all?

I take it you were hoping for that when you applied for a place, so must have been prepared to miss out if a full one wasnt offered. No matter how much you think she deserves it you both have to be prepared to be let down.

Also, if you did find the fees covered then there are always extras to pay for, lunches, school trips, tools for work, extra curricular activities, uniform etc. Could you manage to cover all of that?

Only other option is to go to the media and see if you can find someone who wishes to be a benefactor and pay the difference.
oh, just had a thought - ema will give her 1500 quid of that a year! perhaps it sounds better to hear you only av to find 3000 quid?
the other option is to get a loan over a long time
It might be worth going to the school again and explaining that you would love to take up their offer but you still can't manage the extra money. They may be prepared to reconsider; I know my school was very flexible on this point and would often adjust to give as much as was needed, sometimes up to 100% (the money coming partly from those who could afford full fees).

Perhaps not quite what you want to hear when she's got a place and a good (even if not quite sufficient) bursary at this school, but if it really doesn't work out with this school are there others which might be a bit cheaper or does it have to be this one? I only ask because the fees seem a lot compared to other schools, especially for just day, and there are others which you might be able to manage and which might also give her help, perhaps enough for you to manage it. I don't know the circumstances or the school of course, just a suggestion. I can understand why you want to try for private if the state schools in your area are not good.

Should you be unable to accept the place at your first choice, then perhaps this place is worth you having a look at so your Daughter can still have her chance! It is boarding and less than 10 per cent pay full fees ...

By the way find out if your local church have any dosh on offer : our old parish used to have fund avaliable to a deseving child who lived in the Parish ( did not have to be a
church goer ) for the purposes of furthering their education.

Lots of Charities listed here use the search to find education listed in their aims.
