I used moneysupermarket to find insurance for my car but when i actually tried to go to the websites to buy it I had to confirm all the details I'd already entered and then the quote was much more than it was on the comparison site, can anyone explain why this is and recommend a good cheap insurer?

I've been doing the same recently. I think that the website sort of assumes at least one year no claims bonus.
If you don't mind paying online the cheapest i've seen is tesco online. Yoou get a 15% ( I think) discount for buying online.
Also, as your a lady, check out those women only insurers.
